My project is based at home, where I'm transforming my space into a self-sustaining environmental hub. I practice poultry farming, composting and organic crop production. I'm also currently expanding into agroforestry, I've began documenting my journey under the theme "rooted with Mirel" to educate the public and inspire others, especially youths to embrace sustainable farming as a powerful tool for both climate action and food justice

"My project involves environment education and youth empowerment on matters sustainability aiming to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to take meaningful action on sustainability. By creating awareness around issues like plastic pollution, climate change, and responsible consumption, we hope to inspire a generation that not only understands the importance of environmental stewardship but also feels empowered to lead local solutions. Through workshops, field visits, and storytelling, we bridge the gap between information and impact encouraging youth to become changemakers in their communities and champions for a greener, more sustainable future.

"Trash to Treasure
Turning plastic waste and used tires into industrial oil, thereby enabling both economic and sustainable growth. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of fostering sustainability and promoting an eco-friendly future for Kenya. As a country blessed with rich natural resources and biodiversity, Kenya stands at a pivotal moment in its environmental journey. With the world facing increasing climate challenges, the need for sustainable practices has never been more urgent. For Kenya, embracing sustainability is not only about protecting the environment; it is about securing a viable and prosperous future for generations to come.
Achieving sustainability in Kenya involves balancing economic development with environmental conservation. Key focus areas include renewable energy, waste management, conservation of wildlife and natural habitats, and sustainable agriculture. My project, Trash to Treasure contributes directly to this vision by addressing waste management while creating economic opportunities. Ultimately, Kenya’s sustainable future hinges on innovation, conservation, and community empowerment — a future where interventions are integral to driving long-term prosperity and environmental stewardship.

"Climate justice is an Environmental justice concept that recognize the unequal impact of climate change and vulnerable populations and seeks to address it . Having been born in Kenya raised in Siaya County l grew up witnessing a lot of unequal impact of climate change, littering of beach and markets, cutting down of trees due to luck of knowledge ,in Kwale county , 2 years ago l started a volunteer project, Friends of Diani Clean up initiative, we deal with beach cleaning and also market cleaning, hunting of plastic and use it for cash through Kwale Recycling center, this have been impactful however this year l managed to integrate a few more things , Conservation & Sustainable Management of Coastal & marine ecosystem(COSME) AGRO-FOREST is a project support by Sambasport youth Trust and also Kwale government where by we education Kwale 570 farmers in lungalunga on the importance of plating fruit trees , how to maintain it since fruits are sustainable and boost our immune system l have 70 farmers and very proud to be working with them. l believe empowerment is rising as you rise with others.Lastly l have managed to open Environmental Clubs in two schools in Kwale this will help on the up coming generations to know importance of preserving nature ,be able to take responsibilities of their actions, in Makemba academy and Junior school we are currently collecting plastic to make our school shade and also students are planting trees and tagging them for better identification. My name is Florence Nakhayo Omondi, l Champion for Climate Justice.

"Real Solutions Run on Renewable Energy.
As part of my ongoing commitment to sustainable development and social impact, I am focusing on SDG 4 and 7. I am spearheading a climate change awareness project focused on public education and grassroots engagement.
This initiative aims to demystify climate science, highlight the dangers of unchecked carbon emissions, and promote practical solutions that individuals and communities can adopt to make their lives better.
A key area of focus is advocating for increased penetration of renewable energy, such as solar, wind, and biogas as viable and equitable alternatives to carbon trading systems.
I believe that carbon trading is a false solution that marginalize vulnerable communities. Through workshops, community forums, and digital campaigns, I aim to make renewable energy knowledge more accessible while encouraging policy support for clean energy transitions.
Women Economic Empowerment
Complementing this is a parallel project dedicated to the economic empowerment of women, especially those in marginalized or rural settings.
This includes offering training in business and financial literacy and strengthening community awareness on the importance of gender equity in economic growth which will help solve other social justice problems.
My project's unique approach of aligning climate action with social empowerment and economic empowerment, would foster inclusive growth and long-term resilience in both environmental and human ecosystems.

Ephy Adongo Okatch
"My Name is Ephy Adongo Okatch, 27 years old, proudly born and raised in Migori County, Kenya. I hold degrees in Economics and Fashion Design and Marketing a combination that has shaped the way I approach impact. I use fashion not just as art, but as a force for good, to empower communities, promote cultural pride, and conserve the environment.
Through my initiative, Green Threads, I collect unwearable second-hand garments, upcycle them into meaningful pieces, and clothe children in need, teaching them the value of sustainability. Every child we dress plants a tree, turning fashion into a symbol of renewal and responsibility. I also train youth and single mothers on how to earn a living through sustainable design, creating a ripple of economic empowerment.
I come from a place rich in resilience and beauty, and I carry that spirit into everything I create. Through Green Threads, I’m not just designing clothes I’m weaving stories, planting hope, and empowering others to rise. My mission is to be a voice for sustainable change, and a hand that helps build a future where both people and the planet thrive."

"My project is about climate literacy,it's named "" understanding sdgs with nyambu"" I do webinars and x spaces to educate people about sdgs , I write blogs and I also partner with organisations to educate people on the ground about climate matters . Recently I joined several organization where we began a 12 week project that educates JSS students about waste management, and linkage to UN SDGS , I also do tree planting and community clean up activities . I love this project because inasmuch as we will clean up the area the people will litter again if we don't sensitize them and teach them on ways they can responsibly manage waste at their homes before it ends up on the roads and everywhere else ."

"I am a passionate sustainability advocate and urban planning graduate committed to creating lasting change through community based solutions. My sustainability journey is rooted in the belief that real impact begins at the grassroots level by empowering people with knowledge, tools, and a voice.
My current project, titled ""Advancing Sustainability Through Community Engagement and Education,"" focuses on building climate resilience and promoting sustainable practices within local communities. We work with youth, women, and marginalized groups to raise awareness about environmental issues, champion eco-friendly practices, and inspire local action.
Through capacity-building workshops, school outreach, clean-up campaigns, and environmental clubs, we educate communities on climate change, conservation, and circular economy principles. The project also integrates livelihood support and policy advocacy, ensuring that sustainability is both a shared value and a lived experience.
This initiative is more than a campaign,it's a movement to nurture informed, engaged, and empowered citizens driving sustainability from the ground up."

"I'm a believer of purpose and dreams, that the dreams we have within us are there for a reason, they are the key to unlock love, healing and restoration to our community.
My sustainability project is sustainable fashion. I aim to use sustainable fashion as a tool to reduce waste in our planet through educating people on what it is and how it's connected to them and venture on to take further action by organising and participating in clean up drives. "

"My project involves sustainable fashion from all fronts; designing, producing and consuming clothing in a way that protects the environment.
Firstly, by breaking down overconsumption culture, which led to the rise of fast fashion. If people knew how to find more value in less, find their sense of style and what works for them, they'd feel less the need to go and buy more than necessary. Raising awareness against fast fashion, not only for individuals but also for fashion brands; the importance of making their brands sustainable. Through the materials they use, the production process....in terms of, how much energy is used, and how to produce sustainable energy;how much water is used; what is their waste control policy.
Tackle waste reduction; the massive production of clothes means a mountain of waste, especially here in Kenya as it is the biggest importer of second hand clothes in Africa. My project targets boosting cloth swaps and resale. Whereby, platforms provide a space for individuals to swap or resale their clothes amongst themselves; and the ones deemed too old directed towards fabric recycling centres. Instead of landfills, or burning which does the environment no good.
Finally I'd tackle the problem at the source, and try to have a sit down with policymakers and discuss quality control for the imports of secondhand clothes.
This is just a nutshell of my project. I have specifics and a road map on how I would achieve said goals, which I'll be happy to share at your request."
